As a busy family of 5 running our own business, sourcing and viewing properties for purchase was going to be difficult to juggle. Our work hours meant that time was precious and it would be difficult to have both of us available at the same time. It was obvious that a buyer’s agent was the answer!

The agent who organised the successful sale of our family home gave us Zeina’s details. Instead of a formal introduction we immediately dragged Zeina off to a unit we thought would suit us….She disagreed and a fun but rather hectic (our doing) search for a better option followed.

We met Susan when she was a selling agent. In fact, we bought our existing house from her. When we began looking for a new home, one of the local agents told us she had become a buyers agent so we contacted her.

With three children under 5 years of age, we weren’t able to dedicate time to house hunting. Anyone with kids will attest they are the worst house shopping partners ever. We were also concerned with our lack of experience of the local market where we wanted to buy (and the market in general really) and we were nervous we’d miss something important when we got to the final stages of buying. Having Susan there gave us peace of mind that nothing would be overlooked.

What we loved most about Future Habitat’s service was the volume of listings Susan would present, the extra dozen or so “real” photos she would take, and her no BS notes and appraisal of the house BEFORE we even went to them. That was a huge benefit to us as we just couldn’t see more than one or two houses a weekend (those damn kids again). Also, knowing Susan was a selling agent beforehand gave us the confidence that she knew how to cut through “agent speak” and knew how that game was played. But the biggest benefit I think had to be the last week before purchase. Susan basically handled everything for us – lawyers, B&P, negotiation, inspection…The list goes on and there is no way at all we’d have done all that by ourselves – that was worth 5 times her fee right there.

We recently returned to Australia after 12 years overseas and a colleague heard we were looking to purchase a house. As two working, time poor parents and out of the Sydney real estate market for a long time, we were referred to Future Habitat as someone who could assist in our search for a family home.

I knew Zeina through our daughters’ school but had also heard many good references to her work. So when I was looking to buy a house, she was my first port of call – we met for an initial meeting over coffee and I never looked back!

Bridget and I were considering upgrading our house to something bigger and taking on a huge non tax deductible debt. I recently found myself buying back in the Sydney market. The property market difficulties and the problems of buying again after leaving the Sydney market are well known. Fortunately, my daughter convinced me to consider using a buyers’ agent to help me relocate in Sydney.

The concept of a buyer’s agent was new to me and initially I was a bit put off by the cost of paying someone else find a new home for me.

I met with Susan Gerahty from Future Habitat and she grilled me (pleasantly) about just what I would like to buy and, importantly what I didn’t want in my new home.  Together we compiled an extensive list of what I wanted to buy, together with what I wanted to pay. It was an interesting exercise.

Within 2 days of signing up, Susan had viewed and sent me details of two properties with her own photos and comments together with a checklist of my wishes and expectations. Both were “almost but not quite”! On the sixth day Susan sent me details of a unit which didn’t tick all the boxes but she added “Please come and see this property. I think it is the one for you!” I hesitated, but viewed the property – just the once. I was almost immediately committed to buying the property. Family agreed with me, so then there was just the auction!

We decided not to attend the auction and leave it to my buyers’ agent to strategise and bid at the auction. Both myself and my family are professionals and we understand that some things are best left to the experts in the field. There were 12 registered bidders at the auction (including a couple of possible overseas buyers). I gave Future Habitat my upper limit and listened to the auction on the phone during the bidding with my family.
